Raise your hand if you skip genealogies in your Bible reading! We get it. These hard-to-pronounce names are just hard. We are tempted to skim past them. We know they’re important because God, in His infinite wisdom, included them, but we’re not sure why. To put it simply, genealogies trace God’s faithfulness and promises throughout history. Each name tells us something about God! And if we look closely, we’ll see that a few women are included, too.   In today’s episode, we dive into the story of each of these women. These stories teach us a lot about God, but we pull 5 truths about God beautifully shown in and through these women’s stories. These can seem like simple truths that we know, but when we see them played out in these women’s lives, they sink in. They stir our affections for our great God!   God is faithful to fulfill His promises. (12:44) God is sovereign. (31:56) God loves His enemies. (45:10)  God sets His love and extends His promises to people to all tribes, nations, and tongues. (49:21) God hates sin but loves redemption. (53:41)   This year, the Advent study from The Daily Grace Co. is called Waiting for a Savior.  As we follow the Advent calendar, we trace the lineage of Jesus throughout Scripture. We see that God’s plan of redemption came through a long line of imperfect, sinful people, to bring forth a perfect, sinless Savior. Jesus’ family tree points us to the hope of our salvation that every kind of person with every kind of story is invited to belong.   Resources mentioned in this episode: Perfect Bars “Waiting for the Savior” Advent Study by The Daily Grace Co. “Faithful: From Eden to Eternity” Study by The Daily Grace Co. Should We Forgive and Forget?

Tuesday Oct 05, 2021

Tuesday Oct 05, 2021

We’ve all heard the phrase “forgive and forget”. It’s a nice principle, right? When we wrong someone and seek forgiveness, we would also really like it if that person completely forgot about the offense. But when we turn the situation around, we’re not so sure. Especially if it’s a deep wound and we feel all the things, extending forgiveness is hard. Forgetting the offense entirely seems to be near impossible. So in this episode, we explore this idea of forgiving and forgetting. In the Bible, we read verses that say God will be merciful and “remember their sins no more”. What do we make of this, especially since we also know that God knows all things?   We talked about why we should forgive in a previous episode, but today, we want to explore this idea of forgiving and forgetting. We talk about if it’s even possible to truly forgive and forget. And is it wise to forgive and forget? Is this something Scripture calls us to? Does God actually forget when He forgives? That’s the bottomline: we want to forgive as Jesus forgives. He is our model!   Jesus is our model for forgiveness. (7:42) When God forgives us our sins, does He forget them? (8:53) How can we forgive and continue to walk forward in that forgiveness? (16:03) Jesus is our model: He is committed to those He forgives. (18:58) How do we remain committed to those we’ve forgiven? (23:10) Caveat: we need wisdom! Abusive and/or toxic relationships are real. (25:27) We have certain “covenant relationships” where forgiveness is vital. (30:58) How do we do “not call the offense to mind” when the sin is painful? (35:11) How many times should we forgive? (44:04) This feels impossible. How do we do any of this? (49:37)   Resources mentioned in this episode: The Theology Handbook by The Daily Grace Co. There is a collective weariness that we’re facing right now. Do you feel it? The world, at large, has been facing some particularly devastating blows. Our personal lives are undoubtedly littered with things that are worth grieving. We are so tired; we deeply long for rest. The question is, where are we turning? In today’s episode, we are joined by Emily Lex. Emily is an artist and the author of Freely & Lightly: God’s Gracious Invitation to a Life of Quiet Confidence. This is a book for those that are worn out. Worn out from the heaviness of our broken world but also from the search for personal significance. In response to this weariness, Emily invites us to look into God’s Word and see Jesus’s invitation to find true rest. We work through these questions: Why are so many of us constantly tired or weary? (5:17) Why aren’t our go-to solutions to remedy our weariness working? (10:42) How is true rest in Christ different from the rest the world offers? (13:28) How does an understanding of God’s character help us find true rest? (15:22) What does it mean that “real rest requires an undoing”? (21:03) What rhythms can we incorporate into our lives to find real rest? (23:35) What if life is just too busy or stressful to experience rest? (26:21) What first steps can we take to pursue real rest? Kindness is one of the fruits of the Spirit, but it’s not talked about as much as some of the others. Is it because it’s just so simple? Are Christians just supposed to be nice to others, and that’s the extent of this fruit? Or is there more to biblical kindness? Today, we explore what it means for believers to show kindness to others. We talk about what biblical kindness can look like, and how we can actually do it. Remember, it’s a fruit of the SPIRIT. This means that we cannot truly bear this fruit apart from the work of the Spirit in our lives! This means that being kind is so much more than being nice. It’s not less than that, but it’s so much more!    What is biblical kindness? (9:52) Why should we show kindness to others? (18:53) Different ways kindness can look: Kindness looks like speaking truth to people. (21:20) Kindness looks like considering others better than yourself. (25:14) Kindness looks like being generous. (26:42) Kindness is extending mercy to others. (28:56) Kindness is being nice, serving others, living sacrificially, etc. but with the right heart attitude. (31:22) How do we do this? (33:10) Remember the gospel and make it personal: daily confession (34:51) Depend on the Lord (36:44) Be in the Word (38:55) Be a part of a local church. Infertility is so hard. It’s a tender topic marked by deep pain and sorrow. It can be confusing because what is being withheld is good; children are a gift from God! Statistics tell us that so many people suffer from infertility, and we may ask ourselves, “Why?” How can we understand why some people suffer from infertility from a theological perspective? How can the Lord comfort us in this deep pain? And how can we grieve with hope over unfulfilled desires?    Today, we are joined by Glenna Marshall. Glenna understands this topic because it’s part of her story. We are so grateful for her willingness to share her story and how she found hope in the gospel in her suffering. Glenna actually wrote a lot about this in her book, The Promise is His Presence. She also authored the book, Everyday Faithfulness. All throughout the Old Testament and New Testament, we read that God’s people should “fear the Lord”. We also are told in many verses to “fear not” or “do not fear”. Fear is a hard emotion for us to understand as it is; the differences in these verses can make it extra confusing! But because the fear of the Lord is a topic woven throughout all of Scripture, we know it’s important. So we have to ask: what is the fear of the Lord? How does it impact our real, everyday lives? And if it’s a good thing, how do we grow in our fear of the Lord?   Many conversations on this topic simplify the fear of the Lord to awe and reverence, and that’s not wrong. But this is such a tremendous calling for believers that it’s worth digging deeper. Is Church Really Worth It?

Tuesday Aug 24, 2021

Tuesday Aug 24, 2021

It’s one thing to see the value of the local church, and it’s another thing to faithfully attend and invest in a covenant community week after week after week. That takes commitment; it takes time and effort. And there are many life seasons and circumstances where we might ask ourselves, “Is church really worth it? Do we have to go every week in person?” Especially in our digital age where we can listen to sermons online, we may wonder what the benefit is in going to church in person.    In today’s episode, we explore 10 different scenarios where we may ask ourselves if church is really worth it. While we understand that there are certain situations where attending church in-person is not an option (and we offer encouragement to you if you’re there!), we want to make the case that in-person church is the better option. Here are the scenarios we cover:    Is church really worth it when online church is available? (12:03) Is church really worth it when we’ve experienced church hurt? (19:11) Is church really worth it when you’re in a busy season? (21:42) Is church really worth it when you’re raising young children? (24:12) Is church really worth it when you’re struggling with depression? (26:47) Is church really worth it when you’re wrestling with specific sin patterns? (30:02) Is church really worth it when your church is struggling? (33:02) Is church really worth it when you already have community? (36:46) Is church really worth it when you don’t know anybody there? (40:54) Is church really worth it when it’s been a long time? (46:26)   Church is always worth it because of the value God placed on her. The church is the bride of Christ. The church is the body of believers, working together for the good of the whole and the glory of God. The church isn’t perfect, but there’s no gathering in the world that compares to the gathering of God’s people.   Resources mentioned in this episode: Encouragement Sticky Notes by The Daily Grace Co. Can true believers have doubt? Or does doubt cancel out faith? Doubt can be scary. It can cause us to self-isolate because we’re afraid of what others may think of us. Maybe we’re afraid of putting words to our doubts because we’re not sure what they mean about our faith. Struggling with doubt can also bring about shame. So how do we work through our doubts well? How do we help others in their struggle? Jealous People, Jealous God

Tuesday Aug 10, 2021

Tuesday Aug 10, 2021

We get jealous. In our homes; in our work; in our social circles, both online and offline. Our jealousy is often akin to envy. We desire something we don’t have. But what about the jealousy of God? Throughout Scripture, we see it say our God is jealous. His name is “Jealous”. What do we make of this? More often than not, our jealousy is a sinful jealousy. But God, being holy, is jealous in a righteous way. There is a godly jealousy, and as His image bearers, we can be jealous as He is jealous.   Connect with us: www.dailygracepodcast.com www.thedailygraceco.com https://www.facebook.com/thedailygraceco/ https://www.instagram.com/thedailygraceco/   Questions?
